Oral Appliances
CPAP Alternative
Oral Appliance Therapy
With oral appliance therapy, we no longer have to rely on a loud CPAP machine. Instead, we create an appliance that is worn as you sleep, fitting like a mouthguard. However, the device actually repositions your jaw to keep airways open so you breathe without interruption! The device could also help prevent bruxism. Benefits of the device include:
- Quiet and comfortable
- Simple maintenance
- Portable and travels easily
- Doesn’t require electricity
- No hoses or skin irritations
Downsides of a CPAP Machine
While effective at treating sleep disorders like sleep apnea or chronic snoring, the CPAP machine also has downsides. Many find the mask uncomfortable, and the machine loud, which hinders sleep. People fail to comply with usage, so in the end sleep apnea remains untreated and could lead to complications for your overall health. The CPAP is difficult to travel with, requires a power source, and could cause complications for those with seasonal allergies or congestion. The device is also linked to skin irritation, feelings of claustrophobia, respiratory infections, and could even prevent your significant other from sleeping well due to noise.
Receiving Your Oral Appliance
To receive your appliance, we will first carefully examine your smile and airways for signs of obstruction, and then take digital scans. We use the scans to create a 3D model, which allows the appliance to be custom fitted for your smile. We then send you home with the device, which is worn each night. We check in with you every few weeks or months to make sure the device continues to ease sleep apnea symptoms and help you rest!
